TrophyCatch Hall of Fame catches abound! – If recent Hall of Fame submissions to TrophyCatch are an indicator, this spring is going to set records for bass fishing in Florida. Since New Year’s Day, seven anglers have submitted bass heavier than 13 pounds to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) TrophyCatch program, all of which were released alive.
Each year Bassmaster ranks the top 100 best bass lakes in the country. Although I love that list, as an avid Florida bass angler the majority of the list is somewhat irrelevant to most of our readers (myself included). So we decided to compile a ranking composed exclusively of Florida bass lakes. This is a composite ranking based primarily on the overall Bassmaster rankings and the feedback from a poll we sent out to our guides and readers.
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 4, 2015) – The Citrus High School team of Hunter McPherson and Laramy Strickland brought a five-bass limit to the scale Saturday weighing 29 pounds, 3 ounces to win the 2015 Florida State High School Fishing Championship on Lake Toho. The win earned the team the title of state champions and qualified the team to compete in the High School Fishing Southeastern Conference Regional Championship tournament on Lake Lanier in September. When it comes to the sacred art of trophy preservation, there really is no middle ground. When the preservation is done right, by a talented taxidermy artist, the example can be majestic and awe inspiring (like the unbelievably life-like mounts at the old Fred Bear museum). However when taxidermy goes wrong, it goes VERY wrong!
