Many fish are found close to structural objects of some kind, be they natural or man-made. The construction and planting of artificial habitat has become a very popular activity by groups and individuals as well as by state fisheries agencies, specifically to attract fish for angling.

A 16-year-old Tasmanian angler has landed a 580-pound swordfish that his charter group believes is the largest swordfish ever caught by an amateur in Australian waters.
Regardless, Kyle Longmore’s grueling feat was one he won’t soon forget. An epic battle that required his total concentration played out over six hours in the broiling sun, during the weekend’s Coles Bay Classic tournament.
Recently, Wes Porak of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Fish and Wildlife Research Institute won the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Southern Division of the American Fisheries Society.
Porak was nominated for the award by his colleagues ̶ for his leading role in conserving black bass diversity, genetic conservation and fisheries management ̶ but he’s not accepting it without them. Continue reading
